I live in Iowa. Ames, actually. You went right by here! I am from Ohio, though (a BUCKEYE), so I totally get the Big 10 football deal. My son will be a freshman at Iowa in the fall, so “Hawkeye” is something I have to get used to. Especially since I’m paying tuition there! Good luck with the school/work situation. I’ve always been a fan of part time work. It’s a perfect world when that can happen.

I used to actually used shorthand in my prior secretarial days! I’d sit in those long and boring meetings and Gregg Shorthand myself to sleep!

And having been a secretary for a long time, I’d have thought I’d eventually get big hair. But nay, I also did not. I did, however, have a very large wardrobe filled with polyester dresses and kept a big spray can of Static Cling in my desk drawer. Which is not the same as one of my bosses who had a very large spray can of Aqua Net. To keep his comb-over in place.

You can be a secretary without big hair. I know; I was a secretary (under various titles) for forty years.

I don’t like being a medical secretary, even though I understand the language. The patients can break your heart.

But I believe you can be anything you want. Mothering is just secretary without the typing. It bothers me that no one wants shorthand any more…

If you’re going to be a secretary, I think you need to grow the big-assed hair like Melanie Griffith in the beginning of Working Girl. Now THAT was a look!

ALTOONA!!! I love Altoona. But it’s no Monroe or Otley in small-town-dom. And I love those windmill farms. Seriously. Someday I’m going to just drive there with a picnic lunch and take pictures all day. And wonder if I’ll die of whatever excessive electricity stuff they’re harvesting.

A Good Funeral is a beautiful thing. That’s all I have to say.
